Abraham as Ru'AfoIn a previously unexplored region of space nicknamed The Briar Patch, a race called The Ba'Ku live on a planet ringed by metaphasic energy. This has an interesting effect of these gentle people -- they don't age. Embattled on all sides due to its war with the Dominion, The Federation has allied itself with the Son'A, a race of bitchy old men who rely on daily plastic surgery to survive. The Son'A covet the metaphasic energy and seek to relocate the Ba'Ku, so that the energy may be stolen. A Federation Admiral helps them, violating the Prime Directive.

Spiner as DataThe android, Lt. Cdr. Data, assigned to a cultural survey team of the Ba'Ku homeworld, uncovers the plot and runs amok. Hostages are taken. A Son'A starship, with Federation personnel onboard, is attacked. When word of Data's rebellion reaches Captain Jean Luc Picard, the Starship Enterprise finds itself involved in an Insurrection against the Federation.
