Starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader; John Cena, LeBron James, Colin Quinn, Tilda Swinton
Screenplay by Amy Schumer
Directed by Judd Apatow

IN SHORT: nnn. [Rated . minutes]

From the time they were adolescents, Amy and Kim were taught by their dad that "monogamy isn't realistic." Dad went through an ugly divorce. Kim (Brie Larson) found a perfect man, whose kinks were all worked out by his first wife. Amy (Amy Schumer), works as a writer for a smarmy magazine called S'nuff (think Cosmopolitan for those with snarky social skills) tooks her dad's words to heart. If she were a male, she'd be called a stud. Since she isn't, Schumer (who penned the screenplay) gives her a need for booze heavy enough to help her forget, but not so heavy that her character would forget how to get home before the sun comes up. As grownups, Kim has a stepkid and Amy looks after their dad, crippled by MS and living out his last days in a retirement home.

Hold on, readers, there is comedy buried in this story. Director Judd Apatow has built a career by melding genres together. When the magazine decides to do a cover story about a surgeon who rebuilds injured atheletes (Bill Hader), editor Tilda Swinton gives the assignment to Amy, since a woman who doesn't give two hoots about basketball is the best kind of outsider to do a profile piece. That, and the truth that the story couldn't generate any kind of interesting romantic story (and that Schumer wrote the screenplay) is enough to move things along.

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Trainwreck , he would have paid . . .
