IN SHORT: Avoid. [Rated R for language, some sexuality/nudity, violence and brief drug use. 94 minutes] Nate (Mickey Rourke) plays a down on his luck trumpeter who comes to (after a bender, we think); assumes he's not in the US anymore (we don't know why); wanders into a freak show and pays a dollar to use a phone . . . he never gets the phone. He does get admission to the freak show where he sees his own personal angel. Her name is Lily (Megan Fox). She's a beauty behind a pane of glass. She has wings. She looks miserable. So he steals her away and, in a quiet moment, discovers that she has never flown from captivity because her wings are too small and weak to carry her away. That brings the number of big problems in MR's life to three. He apparently owes big bucks to some sleazy type briefly seen at the film's start; He now has pissed off the Angel's owner or owner-to-be, an immensly wealthy and powerful man with a 24/7 grimace on his face. Thus the name "Happy" Shannon (Bill Murray). "Happy" would solve the problem of the trumpeter who won't go away by killing him.. Angel swears she will not try to escape her new found freedom (so to speak) as long as MR is unharmed. Kelly Lynch flits in and out of the story once or twice as a platonic friend of Nate's. She may be a stripper. Maybe not. Doesn't matter. Even actor Mickey Rourke has been yelling at anyone who will stand still that this film is terrible. So if you won't believe the star, believe the critic who has already wasted too much space on this thing. On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Passion Play, he would have paid . . . $0If you think or expect that someone important will die because, after all, that's part of the implication of the title, think again.
