IN SHORT: Finally, done.[Rated PG-13 for some sequences of intense action violence and frightening images. minutes]

Over the course of the films that comprise the Harry Potter epic there have been good moments and there have been bad moments. There has been a lot of padding. There have been elements that struck us as flat out ridiculous. In general, though, given this site's prime directive ("you shouldn't have to read the book to understand the movie"), the Harry Potter movies have been worth the money. At least that's how we felt up until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 which was heavy on exposition and light on action and bored us silly. It wasn't much of a guess to assume that Part 2 would be two hours of slam bang action heavy on death and destruction and all that good stuff . . . well, maybe not so much on the death since the Potter films are as close to family friendly as you can get (even with the death and destruction and witchcraft and other things that wouldn't go down well in any average church on any given Sunday).

That being said, there was at least one moment in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 that caught this critic completely by surprise -- it comes late in the film so no spoilers from this page. We asked a couple of other critics about said surprise at a screening the day after. They weren't surprised, which means those of you who weren't bored silly by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 will probably not be caught by surprise.

And, despite that directive, for the parental units who spent most of the last decade sitting in the back while their kids have grown up down in front, hopefully the Potter canon has gotten your kids interested in reading. Now the saga is over. Maybe some of that reading stuff will have stuck.

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Harry Potter and the Death Hallows, part 2, he would have paid . . .

$7

What? You expect us to tell you all about the grand battle between the wizardly equivalent of good vs. evil? Not gonna happen.
