IN SHORT: All kindling but just short of a full fire. [Rated . minutes]

Back in the Great Depression, when most Americans were living on breadlines and looked to the glamor of Hollywood on the Big Screen to lift the blanket of despair. It was the time of all-singing and all-dancing chorus lines of beautiful women and men in tuxedos. That fantasy was easily sold to the starving masses who had the perfect fantasy world laid out before them,  just a nickel (for a ticket) and a dream away.

Now we have a Great Recession. For those raised in the baby boom generations after WWII, success has been measured by all the goodies we could accumulate. In The Joneses, a protected, gated community welcomes its newest residents, a clean cut All American family populated by the absolute top of the line accumulators. The Jones family -- Steve (David Duchovny) and Kate (Demi Moore) and teens Jenn (Amber Heard) and Mick (Ben Hollingsworth) has the best of everything and only casually displays it to the new friends in their community. But the new friends, whether across the street or on the private golf course, want to keep up with the Joneses.

Which is great because the Joneses are willing to sell all they have to their newfound, neighbors and friends. The Jones'  family aren't a family at all. Their a team of trained salespeople and this film's sly jab at consumerism and accumulation is a much better sit than it probably sounds.

David Duchovny plays Steve Jones the fake father, a man undergoing a crisis of confidence because he is living a lie.

Demi Moore is the Kate Jones, mother, a career-driven woman who struggles with her growing feelings toward her fake husband.

Fake daughter Jenn Jones who is trying to seduce her fake dad while looking for a rich man. That would be Alex "The Hammer'" Bayner (Robert Pralgo). "Brother [] () hates the straight life. Literally.

neighbors Larry and Summer Symonds (Gary Cole and Glenne Headly)

uberboss KC (Lauren Hutton)

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to The Joneses, he would have paid . . .
