Knight and Day

Starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz
Screenplay by Patrick O'Neill and James Mangold
Directed by James Mangold
website: KnightandDaymovie.com

IN SHORT: Fast paced and quickly forgotten. Fine for summer dating. [ Rated PG-13 for sequences of action violence throughout, and brief strong language.]

CRANKY'S DEAL: On the way to the screening of Knight and Day some idiot, trying to catch a subway car which was still unloading passengers, slammed yours Cranky into the side of the door opening, pinning me there until the crowd thinned and he got into the car. At that very instant, the subway car doors closed on our poor, broken and disabled body and that was pretty much that. Once we were picked up off the platform and checked to make sure nothing seemed broken, check, off we went to the screening theater, one block away.

WHAT IT IS: Fast paced, action packed and (for at least the first 20 or so minutes) incredibly silly.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: A chance encounter thrusts a woman (Cameron Diaz) travelling east to attend her sister's wedding, and a charming but lethal undercover operative (Tom Cruise) into a series of adventures across the globe. As if dodging assassins and uncovering world-changing secrets weren't enough, she must now figure out if he is a good guy, a traitor – or just plain crazy.

You know the film is silly when everyone on the plane with Diaz is carrying a gun. And everyone uses said weaponry without piercing the hull and forcing explosive decompression. From here on out, the film is obviously disposable. Whether or not you like it or not is, well, up to you.

WHY NO RATING??? We managed to sit through Knight and Day until the pain from the accident became unbearable. Yeah, we weren't carrying extra pain killers. Sue us for thinking our medical conditions had improved enough that that wasn't necessary. From here on out, we'll carry pills at all times, just as we used to.
