Holy Rollers

Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Bartha, Ari Graynor
Danny A. Abecaser and Q-Tip
Screenplay by Antonio Macia
Based on
Directed by Kevin Asch

IN SHORT: nnn. [Rated R for drug dontent throughout, and brief sexual material. 89 minutes]

Sam Gold (Jesse Eisenberg) Sam's mother (Elizabeth Marvel) sister Ruth (Hallie Eisenberg) and father Mendel (Mark Ivanir)

Sam's family business is selling fine cloth. Not glamorous but an honorable trade.
Rebbe Horowitz (Bern Cohen)

Sam loves his mother. He'd rather not be working in the back of the family store but he's not averse to taking a second job to, perhaps, help buy a new stove for the family kitchen.

Other than that, Sam is your average kid. He hangs with his BFF Leon Zimmerman (Jason Fuchs)

Leon is going to marry Zeldy Lazar (Stella Keitel). Zeldy was supposed to marry Sam -- an arranged marriage (but they disagreed about kids -- one wanted 8  the other 5) and then rumors began to circulate in the community about Sam's job on the side. Y'see Zeldy's family was wealthier within the community. Sam's was respectable. But respectable doesn't buy a step up the ladder in the community, so when Leon's older brother Yosef (Justin Bartha) offers a new "opportunity," Sam takes said opportunity and is introduced to  one Jackie Solomon (Danny A. Abeckaser). Jackie's trade -- importing expensive medicine for rich people -- is very hush hush and involves travel to Europe at short notice and plain white envelopes stuffed with dead presidents.

Jackie's squeeze in Amsterdam is Rachel (Ari Graynor)

Mendel (Mark Ivanir) Ephraim (Q-Tip)

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Holy Rollers, he would have paid . . .

Sam has shamed  his community -- the rabbi chastises  him. He has shamed his family. They refuse the gift of the new stove and cast him out. He cuts his pais off. (

There's a mitzvah mobile in Amsterdam??
