IN SHORT: feh. [Rated . 1z20 minutes]

Y'know what we think about a whole messa emotionless white guys in dark suits? They all to look alike. Except for the one with the tan. You just know he's up to no good . . .

[] (Mel Gibson) is happy 'cuz he's seeing his daughter [] () for the first time in a long while. A single dad, his only kid has been establishing her own career so there's lots of things to catch up on. Not that the CIA daddy can talk much about  his government job, you know. Daughter will have to do the talking. Well, she would if she wasn't blown away on the doorstep of theh family  home. Dad, of course, utilizes all his resources to track down the killer, knowing that (due to the aforementioned background) the death of his kid was a horrible assassination miss.

If it wasn't, there's a heckuva a lot daddy doesn't necessarily know about daughter's professional career. We're not going any farther than that because it brings out the major failing in the script of Edge of Darkness . . .  if the daughter's "secret" life is important, it sure would be nice if we  had more than fiteen seconds to get a handle on her character. We don't.

Like any bad George Clooney move, to drop a name, Edge of Darkness is a bad Mel Gibson movie that, like George's stuff, is carried on the shoulders of his superstar status. It doesn't matter that there's practiaclly nthing to build a story on. It doesn't matter that the plot twists of this vaguest of stories are sledge hammered in with virtually no setup. We watched a star go through the motions and, sorry to say, even that is more entertaining than two thirds of all the other films we sit through day in, day out.

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Edge of Darkness, he would have paid . . .
